CRIME RATE IN NIGERIA
The rate at which crime is on the increase these days is alarming. Tales of armed robbery, kidnapping, killings and other forms of crime fills the airwaves everyday. Most times when the perpertrators are caught, they either blame it on the devil or the economic situation of the country.
Causes of Crime
How do some people decide to commit a crime? Do they think about the benefits and the risks? Why do some people commit crimes regardless of the consequences? Why do others never commit a crime, no matter how desperate their circumstances?
The causes of crime
are complex. Poverty, parental neglect, low self-esteem, alcohol and
drug abuse can be connected to why people break the law.
Some are at greater risk of becoming offenders because of the circumstances into which they are born. Whatever reason a person has for committing a crime doesn't justify as as the person made a choice to carry it out either through careful planning or or out fear or on impulse.

How do we reduce crime rate
Crime cannot be totally eradicated from our society, but it can be drastically reduced. They say charity begins at home, so the issue of crime prevention and control begins with the parents.
We need to use campaigns and technology to reach every child and family in the country. We need to develop tools to make sure that everybody feels important and cared for through parenting interventions, family interventions, well-being campaigns, and early childhood education.
Another way of crime reduction, is to make use of community police. They will assist the National police in policing every nook and cranny of the society.
We should also look into the use of surveillance cameras and also try to develop our security forces by providing them with better equipments to enable them perform better.
